Free Basketball Clinics Continue To Be A Success

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – “It was an absolute blast working with all the kids,” said John Lamanna, Franciscan University’s head men’s basketball coach. “I was very pleased with the clinic turnout.” Over 50 boys and girls attended the University’s first free basketball clinic on Jan. 7, and Lamanna is looking forward to a repeat success at this weekend’s second free clinic.

Hosted by head coaches Luke Heusel and Lamanna, their coaching staff, and the Baron basketball team, the free game day clinics are offered for boys and girls ages six through 12. All participants are given free admission to the men’s and women’s basketball games following the clinic he or she attends.

“The goal of the clinics is to provide the community with a better sense of what Baron Basketball is all about,” said Lamanna. “We want to give back to the community by teaching proper basketball skills and fundamentals.”

The basketball clinics are for all skill levels and focus on teaching basic basketball fundamentals such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense.

The remaining three clinics are scheduled for Jan. 21, Jan. 28, and Feb. 11. All three will be held from 9 to 11 a.m.

Home basketball doubleheaders follow each of the clinics. Clinic participants are encouraged to use their free pass to the games and stay to cheer on Franciscan’s basketball teams.
