Athletes Named to AMCC Academic All-Conference
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced Thursday that 670 varsity team members from its 10 member institutions have been named to the 2010-11 Academic All-Conference Team. Franciscan University of Steubenville represents 96 student-athletes on the team.
“This is fantastic news,” said Athletic Director Chris Ledyard. “It is not small feat that more than half of our student-athletes are on this team. This is a tangible representation of the type of student-athletes we have at Franciscan University.”
The requirement of each student-athlete includes achieving a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 while participating as a member of an AMCC championship sport in order to be eligible for the award.
The Franciscan student-athletes on the academic team participate in men’s and women’s cross-country, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball.
Student-athletes participating in rugby or track and field do not qualify since neither are AMCC sports.
