Women’s Tennis Earns Back-to-Back Player of the Week

Congratulations to Mariette van der Wegen, freshman Lady Baron Tennis player for Franciscan University of Steubenville for earning conference player of the week for the week of October 11. This is the second week in a row that the Lady Barons clinched the honor.

Van der Wegen, an international student from Uden, Holland, went 2-1 as the number two seed in singles last week, including a three-set win over La Roche in a tiebreak to deliver a 5-4 team win.

The Lady Barons concluded their inaugural season with a 7-2 victory over Mount Aloysius College Tuesday afternoon. The season ended for the women’s tennis team with a 4-9 overall standing and a 4-4 standing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
