STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Paul Jarzynka earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for stepping up to the No. 1 singles position twice to help lead the Baron tennis team to two out of its three victories that week, and a 5-0 record on the season.
Jarzynka, a sophomore from Jackson, Mich., replaced Leonel Lacayo as No. 1 singles seed in last Tuesday’s match against Westminster College and Saturday’s home match versus the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The Barons won both, 5-4 and 7-2, respectively.
While at the No. 1 spot, he won in straight sets and went on to also win two out of his three No. 1 doubles matches. Back as the No. 2 seed for the Barons on Sunday, Jarzynka won a critical match over Penn State Behrend to help clinch a 5-4 victory.
Baron Tennis will look to defend its AMCC title April 14-15 at the AMCC championship held in Wexford, Pa.
