Lady Baron Soccer Sees The Old & The New Honored
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – New players mix well with the old for Lady Baron soccer, as three underclassmen and one senior were honored Tuesday by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for their performances this season.
Dedicated to Franciscan University’s varsity soccer program since she was a freshman, co-captain Clare Smith received Third Team All-Conference honors for her defensive play. The Schenectady, N.Y., native helped raise the team to a .500 (8-8) finish—a good improvement over last season’s .353 (5-10-2).
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Koath and sophomore forward Amanda Looman also earned Third Team All-Conference honors. Looman, an Ohio Valley native, started 10 out of the team’s 16 games to lead the Lady Barons in goals with eight. She also tallied three assists. Koath served as keeper in all 16 of the season’s games, starting in nine, to rack up over a thousand minutes of playing time. During that time she made 90 saves for a .756 save percentage.
Hailing from Ellicott City, Md., Julia Cocozza led the Lady Barons with her offensive prowess to earn Second Team All-Conference honors from the AMCC. The freshman started in all 15 games she played, earning eight goals and three assists. Three of Cocozza’s goals were game winning.
The Lady Barons wrapped up the season 8-8 overall with a 4-5 finish in the AMCC.
