Three Lady Barons Named All-Conference; Murray is Newcomer of the Year
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Three Lady Baron tennis players were named to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference first and second all-conference teams for their outstanding performances during the team’s second season of play. The Lady Barons finished as AMCC runners-up after the conference championship and a 7-1 record.
Freshman Alanna Murray earned Newcomer of the Year for an unblemished regular season record at No. 2 singles. Murray, from Peotone, Ill., also placed second in No. 2 singles play at the AMCC Championship. She defeated D’Youville’s Jessica Lampka to earn a bye to the second round where she lost to Penn St. Behrend’s top-ranked Stephanie Cattron, 6-1, 6-1.
Murray went on to place second in doubles at the championship with partner Jen Winkle Murray. Both Winkle and Murray earned second team all-conference recognition for their performance.
Murray and Winkle were seeded second overall in the championship. In the first round they defeated La Roche College’s Victoria Shields and Alea Marks, 8-6, but were subsequently defeated by Penn St. Behrend, 8-0.
Their teammate, Hannah Pettit, was undefeated in singles conference play going into the championship, and earned first team all-conference recognition. Pettit, a freshman from Colchester, Conn., took first place in No. 6 singles play.
