Barons Get Win in Double-Header Against Hilbert
STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan University of Steubenville’s baseball beat the visiting Red Hawks of Hilbert College on Friday afternoon 8-4. The win was the first for the Barons in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, and snapped a nineteen-game losing streak.
FUS lost the first game 10-4. In the win, the Barons got an outstanding offensive game from shortstop Steve Jagla. Jagla went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s in the game. Designated hitter Anthony Pontarelli continued his strong offensive season going 2-3 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. First baseman Rob Marrow went 2-3 with 2 RBIs as well.
Starting pitcher Nathan Cain went the distance, striking out four while giving up four earned runs off of eight hits in getting his third win of the season. In the first game, Marrow and Jagla again were the offensive leaders, each going 2-3. Right fielder Chris Clynes went 1-4 with 2 RBIs, while second baseman Kevin Marrow went 1-4 with another RBI for the Barons.
Starting pitcher Steve Daly lasted 2.1 innings, giving up seven earned runs off of 10 hits. Reliever Robert Penate went 4 innings giving up one run off of three hits.
FUS (4-26, 1-14) hits the road tomorrow in double-header action against Medaille College. The first game is slated for 1:00 p.m.
