Barons Drop Road Double-Header to OSU Mansfield


MANSFIELD, OH - Franciscan University of Steubenville’s baseball team was on the road Tuesday night against the Ohio State University at Mansfield.

The Barons lost 10-1 and 7-6 in a double header. The Barons are now 3-11 overall on the season.

In the first game, the Buckeyes were dominant, outhitting the Barons 11-3. Starting pitcher Kevin Marrow was strong from the plate going 2-3, but struggled on the mound, giving up nine earned runs and four walks while striking out two in six innings of work.

In the second game, the Barons made a game of it. Despite a four-run first inning by the Buckeyes, Franciscan came back to take the lead 6-5 in the 7th. However, they could not hold on to the lead as the home team scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the game.

Starting pitcher Nathan Cain pitched 6 and two-thirds innings, giving up 13 hits, seven earned runs while striking out 7. Marrow had another good game at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI. The Barons look to continue their excellent play as they face conference opponent University of Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday, 1 pm.
