Franciscan Baseball Falls to La Roche 10-3


STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan University of Steubenville’s baseball team played a tough game in the rain, falling to the Red Hawks of La Roche College 10-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Vaccaro Field.

The second game of the double header was called due to rain. The Barons showed offensive improvement in the batter’s box, outhitting the Red Hawks 10-9. First baseman Kevin Marrow was the offensive highlight for the Barons. Marrow went 3-4 with an RBI. Left fielder Chris Clynes also hit well for the Barons, going 2-3 with an RBI of his own. Third baseman Rob Penate went 2-3 as well. Starting pitcher Will Peyton went 4 innings, giving up 8 earned runs off of 5 hits.

 Reliever Sam Quillen went the final 3 innings, giving up two earned runs off of four hits. The Red Hawks were led by left fielder Erik Densmore, who went 3-3 with 4 RBIs. Catcher Chad McCoy went 3-4 with 3 RBIs. Starting pitcher Phil Avolio went 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run off of 8 hits while striking out 8.

The Barons (3-25, 0-13), will stay at home for a double header against Hilbert College on Friday, first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
