Barons Beat Pilgrims 9-4

In their second game of the day Franciscan played the Pilgrims of New England College from Henniker, New Hampshire in spring training exhibition games in Coco Beach, Fla. The Barons beat the Pilgrims 9-4.

Pitcher Nathan Cain(2-2) threw a gem, scattering 7 hits over 7 innings while allowing no earned runs and striking out four. Rob Marrow came in for relief in the eighth and allowed 3 earned runs and 5 hits.

Shortstop Anthony Pontarelli continued his hot hitting for Franciscan, going 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Franciscan scored 3 runs in the second and fifth innings to jump to a large lead. NEC attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth of Marrow, scoring three runs, but were unable to finish it. Steve Jagla, Kevin Marrow, and David Dupuy all went 2-5 for Franciscan with an RBI a piece.

Earlier in the day, Franciscan lost to the Opsreys of The Richard Stockton College.

The Barons will continue with spring training action in Coco Beach  against Baruch College on March 21.
