Franciscan Drops to Nichols 11-2 in Spring Training
Franciscan Barons faced Nichols College for the second time in spring training games in Coco Beach, Fla. The Barons lost to the Bison 11-2. The Bison took the previous match up on March 15, 9-0.
The Baron's struggled again offensively, only getting three hits off of Bison pitching, which was a combined effort from starter Thomas Bozek and reliever Daniel Vreeland. All three hits came in the fourth inning. First baseman Nathan Cain singled to left field, followed by another single by third baseman Robert Penate. Cain scored off of an error by center fielder Cale LaCasse. Baron center fielder Ryan Marrow drove in Penate with a single of his own to make the score 5-2. But the Bison proved to be too much for the Barons.
Franciscan struggles extended to the mound as well. Starter Kevin Marrow went 3.2 innings, giving up all 11 runs, 7 of them earned, off of 9 hits. Steve Jagla, Penate, and Chris Kotur all pitched in relief.
This was Franciscan's second game of the day. They had beaten Baruch College 10-8 in a morning game. The Barons now stand at 3-8. This was the final game for spring training in Coco Beach, Fla. Franciscan will open with AMCC play against Frostburg State on March 27th.
