Barons Fight a Bearcat Lockdown
LATROBE, PA – The Franciscan University of Steubenville Barons baseball team took on the St. Vincent College Bearcats Monday afternoon, losing 16-8. The Barons now stand 3-11 overall in the season and 0-4 within the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The Barons trailed 2-0 early in the game but quickly recovered in the top of the second inning, scoring six runs to take a 6-2 advantage. The Bearcats rallied back to take a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the second and extended the lead to 9-6 by the third inning. Franciscan made another offensive push and cut the deficit to 9-8 in the fourth, but the Bearcat defense locked down, prohibiting another Franciscan run for the remainder of the contest and sealing their 16-8 victory.
The Barons registered 10 hits, led by Rocco Auteri’s three hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Kevin Marrow had two hits, an RBI, and a run, and Ryan Marrow and Daniel Brink each had one hit, one run, and one RBI.
“We hit well today,” Barons head coach Dr. Robert Marrow remarked. “Kevin, Rocco and Ryan all had good hits today. However, we need to continue to fix the little things. If we're able to do that, I think we can have a great season. It was a great offensive effort today.”
The Barons host the La Roche College Redhawks this Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
