McCaig Named AMCC Player of the Week

STEUBENVILLE – Junior Jonas McCaig earned the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference weekly honor for the Franciscan men's lacrosse team as he was named the AMCC Player of the Week, Monday afternoon.

McCaig was an offensive spark for the Barons 2-0 week to open the year.

In Franciscan's 14-13 win over Oglethorpe last Monday, McCaig's final goal of the game proved to be the difference-maker as he pushed the Baron lead to 14-9. McCaig finished the game with three goals and an assist against the Petrels.

Against Carroll, McCaig tied the game 6-6 right before halftime and gave Franciscan its first lead of the game with a goal just 1:00 into action in the third. The junior posted five goals and handed out two assists against the Pioneers.

McCaig finished the week with eight goals and three assists, picking up nine ground balls, causing three turnovers and finished with a 62.1% shooting percentage on goal.

Following the mid-week postponement of their game against Medaille, McCaig and the Barons will travel to Westminster on Saturday for a 1:00 pm game.
