FUS Hires First Men's and Women's Head Lacrosse Coaches
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Franciscan athletics two new sports now have a face. Peter Rosaschi and Maura Conant have been hired as the first men’s and women’s lacrosse coaches in FUS history. Coach Rosaschi and Coach Conant will lead Baron Lacrosse into their inaugural year for the 2012-2013 season.
“The athletic department couldn’t be happier with Peter and Maura and what they bring to the city of Steubenville and Franciscan University,” said Chris Ledyard director of athletics and Franciscan University.
With three of his children either enrolled at FUS or graduated from the university and over 28 years of lacrosse coaching experience, Coach Rosaschi brings a thorough understanding of Franciscan University’s goals, as well as a deep knowledge of the game of lacrosse.
“I’m very humbled to be given the opportunity to coach here at Franciscan, which has a wonderful, wonderful reputation,” Coach Rosaschi said. “I’m extraordinarily proud to be a part of that now. It’s my goal to live up to the expectation that has been placed on me by the athletic department and the administration. We will develop the athlete in mind, body, and spirit through the sport of lacrosse.”
Coach Conant started two club field hockey teams while teaching physical education for three years at the Koinonia Academy in Plainfield, N.J. Before teaching, she earned both an undergraduate and master’s degree from Franciscan University. Coach Conant enters the job with a strong pre-established familiarity with the university’s standards and a clear vision for the team.
“I am so excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach the Lady Baron Lacrosse Team at Franciscan University. I've always considered sports to be a conduit for people to discover more about themselves by pushing themselves beyond what they think is possible,” Coach Conant said. “I plan to focus on what we need to do one practice at a time, one day at a time, to build this inaugural team. By giving 100 percent at every practice, we will give 100 percent at every game, so whether win or lose; we will know that we gave 100 percent.”
Both the men’s and women’s lacrosse season will start this fall. Coach Conant and Coach Rosaschi are in the process of hiring assistant coaches as well as putting together their rosters and schedules for 2012-2013.
