FUS Ruggers defeated by Indiana University of Pennsylvania
STEUBENVILLE, OH - On Saturday September 24 the Franciscan University of Steubenville Rugby team met the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks on the pitch for what would turn out to be an intense game of rugby. The final score was 50-12, with IUP emerging victorious.
While scrums were won by both sides, IUP took control of most of the lineouts, and their blazing speed proved deadly as they broke away from the Baron pack for try after try. The ball was not given up easily though; The Baron forwards provided vicious rucking and mind-numbing hits, and quick ball movement with intense hitting by the Baron backline. The Crimson Hawks utilized an organized back line movement to split the gaps of the Baron defense, and capitalized with support and passing to score tries.
"It was a hard fought game, I was really impressed with the teams intensity" says Head Coach Mark Hanrahan. "I was especially impressed with how well they played in the second half. They played well against a team that was division 1 last year. The guys are improving more and more every week. I am very hopeful that we will win next week."
The Franciscan University of Steubenville Barons drop to a 0-3 record with this loss and their next game is home against Clarion University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
