FUS Ruggers Fall to University of Pittsburgh

FUS Ruggers Fall to University of Pittsburgh

STEUBENVILLE, OH- The Franciscan University of Steubenville Baron Rugby team lined up against the University of Pittsburgh Rugby team on Saturday. The University of Pittsburgh team emerged victorious, the final score being 55-5.

The game swung early for U-Pitt, and they kept that momentum the entire game. They successfully overloaded their backline time after time, resulting in many mismatches that the U-Pitt ruggers exploited for tries.

The Baron ruggers just couldn't seem to tackle, as breakaways by Pittsburgh ruggers were common. Lineouts, where the Barons are usually dominant, were another weak point during the game. The one thing the Barons were successful at was scrums, where they were able to maintain possession for many of the put-ins. Overall, the Baron ruggers were simply outplayed.

When asked to comment on the game Coach Hanrahan said "it was a tough day for FUS rugby. We're playing in a really tough league, but we are a young team. We just weren't tough enough today. We have a lot of room for improvement."

Their next and final game is at home, Saturday, 1:00 pm against California University of Pennsylvania. The Roosterheads have a 3-1 record in ARU (Allegheny Rugby Union).
