Rugby in National Top 20

It was a Christmas surprise by the National Small College Rugby Organization last week, when the organization released its first-ever national rankings of the top 20 men’s collegiate division three teams. Franciscan University of Steubenville’s rugby team placed 13th in the nation.

With a 5-1 season record, the Baron ruggers placed above schools such as Benedictine University and St. Edwards University. Other notable teams in the top 20 were Providence College and Mount St. Mary’s University. Salve Regina College is the leader in NSCRO’s top 20.

The Barons only loss was to Ithaca College in the national semi-finals earlier in November, 31-0. Ithaca currently sits in the number two spot out of the top 20 with a record of 6-0.
