Steubenville, Ohio – The Barons have proven their skills extend beyond what was predicted for 2011. At the end of 2010, Franciscan University’s rugby team was ranked 16th in the nation by the National Small College Rugby Organization. By August, the NSCRO ranked them 10th out of 25. Released today, the NSCRO named the Barons No. 1 in the nation. (More)

Rugby Defeats Grove City to Advance to Finals

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio—The Baron rugby team of Franciscan University of Steubenville won its first round of postseason competition Saturday afternoon on a muddy home pitch. The ruggers in green and gold triumphed over their Allegheny Rugby Union competitors, Grove City College, 27-5, in the semi-final match. Despite the cold, wet conditions and the absence of head coach Mark Hanrahan, the Barons played an exceptional game. (More)

Baron Rugby Remains Undefeated
PITTSBURGH—Franciscan University's Baron rugby team wrapped up its regular season Saturday afternoon with a resounding 58-17 victory over Allegheny Rugby Union Division II team Robert Morris University. The defeat pushed Robert Morris into giving up more points in the match than they have all season.

Barons Winning Streak Continues against Alumni
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio— In the spirit of Homecoming Weekend on campus, fans flocked to see an intense competition and celebrate the proud sport of Franciscan Rugby, past and present as Franciscan University’s Baron rugby team welcomed more than 30 former Franciscan Ruggers on the home pitch in Saturday’s Alumni Match. The final score was 20-12 Barons, who hold a 3-0-1 record overall after beating West Virginia University at the Rugby Ruckus last weekend.

Barons Shutout WVU for 8th Annual D’Anniballe Rugby Ruckus
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio—Franciscan University’s Baron rugby team toppled West Virginia University in a 32-0 shutout this Saturday night in the Eighth Annual Robert D’Anniballe Rugby Ruckus.
