Pittsburgh, PA - The Barons of Franciscan University of Steubenville took on Waynesburg in a hard-fought contest on Saturday afternoon. Christian Bobak scored the only goal of the game, propelling Franciscan to a 1-0 victory, improving their record to 1-2 (0-0) on the season.
Both teams struggled to find offensive momentum in the first half, and, as result, the score read 0-0 at the break. Christian Bobak's goal in the second half gave Franciscan the lead which they never relinquished.
Steve Duran led the Barons on the day with 5 shots (3 on goal). Christian Bobak also had 5 shots (2 on goal), and Zeph Swope had 2 shots (1 on goal). Ryan Harts was the standout for Waynesburg with 3 shots on the day (2 on goal). Barons goalkeeper William Herrmann of Wintersville, OH, also had a noteworthy performance with 9 saves.
"We had an amazing defensive effort today," Barons assistant coach Johann Marin remarked in a post-game interview. "We'd like to score more goals, but our defense was able to carry us today. "Zeph Swope, Kyle Langan, Matt Taylor, and Andrew Straub really carried us."
The Barons' next contest is scheduled for next Saturday, September 12, against St. Vincent College at the Bethany College Tournament.
