Barons Rout Malone

CANTON, OH - The Barons soccer team of Franciscan University of Steubenville traveled to Malone on Monday night, winning 5-2. With the victory, the Barons improved to 8-6 (6-3) on the season.

The Barons only had twelve available players for the contest, which meant that they only had one sub for the entirety of the game. John Paul Williams scored the opening goal for the Barons, and Eddie Recznik added another to tie the game with Malone at 2-2. The Barons then scored three unanswered goals to achieve a 5-2 victory.

Barons goalkeeper Billy Herrmann of Wintersville, OH, was forced to play in the field in the game because of the team's shortage of players, and he scored their third goal of the game. Christian Bobak got the fourth, while Steve Duran continued his solid play by scoring the Barons' final goal of the night.

"We played very well, despite our lack of numbers," Barons assistant coach Tommy Lahey remarked in a post-game interview. "We overcame a lot of adversity tonight, and it translated into a win. It was a great all-around effort." The Barons' next game is at home against Pitt-Greensburg this Wednesday at 3 p.m.
