Baron Tennis Loses Last Match of 2012

BEREA, Ohio — Franciscan University's Baron tennis team traveled to Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday afternoon to play its last match of the 2012 season. The Barons lost to the nonconference opponent 9-0, dropping to a 12-3 record on the overall season.

Due to inclement weather the match was played indoors.

"It was a good way to wrap up the season because this was such a high caliber team," said head coach Jeremy Ellis, "so it was good to get to go out and compete at that level. The guys played really well for having almost two weeks off."

After earning runner-up in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship on April 15 the Barons have not had any matches.

In singles play No. 1 seed Leonel Lacayo was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Alex Trzeciak; No.2 Paul Jarzynka fell to Joe Horvath, 6-3, 6-3; Brian Robau lost to Alex Bourdiaux 6-2, 6-3; Luke Merry sustained a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Alex Kearney; John Shultis was defeated by Tyler Beaton 6-1; 6-3 and Richard Pankus lost 6-0, 6-3 to Brad Minrovic.

In doubles, No. 1 doubles team Paul Jarzynka and Leonel Lacayo put up a fight but fell to Trzeciak and Bourdiaux 8-6.

"This was only the second time Leonel and Paul played doubles together; they played really well together," noted Ellis.

No. 2 doubles team—Luke Merry and Brian Robau—was defeated 8-2, and No. 3 doubles team John Shultis and Richard Pankus also lost 8-2.

"Win or lose the chemistry of this team has never breached, and that's really encouraging to see," said Ellis. "We are all looking forward to next season and are excited to drive forward."
