Franciscan fares well during toughest competition of the season
Oberlin, OH-The Franciscan University of Steubenville's men's team traveled to Oberlin College for the Bob Kahn Invite to face the toughest competition they've met all season. The men's team placed seventh of eight teams with 23 points. Tiffin University men's team won the meet with 259 points.
The men's team saw some record breaking performances. Freshman Patrick Meier set school records in the 100m and 200m dashes with times of 11.97 seconds and 24.02 seconds. Freshman Bill Jones broke two minutes in the half mile while placing third in the 800m race with a time 1:57.81. Jones also won the 5k race in 15:10.95 minutes. A great race was put forth by junior Horatio Gonzalez in the 800m who ran the race n 2:05.61. Freshman Tim Michaud place seventh in both the javelin and discus throws, throwing 40.76 meters in the javelin and 24.09 meters for the discus.
"We had a lot of great races" commented head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler post-race. "Many people competed the best they have in their careers".
Both track teams will compete for the last time of the 2009 season on May 8th at the Gator Invite at Allegheny College
