New Records for Franciscan University
NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Franciscan University of Steubenville's men's track team set new school and personal records as they competed extremely well at the Westminster Invite on Saturday. The Franciscan men took fifth place of seven teams with 33 points and also took first in one event. On the men's side, Penn State-Behrend won overall with 252 points.
On the men's side, Patrick Meier set a new school record for the 400m race by beating his own record by 1.02 seconds, running in 52.84. Meier placed sixth in the event and added three points to the men's score. Freshman Bill Jones, the team's highest scorer, destroyed a school record in the 800m race by 10 seconds. Jones placed third in event with a time of 2:00.54 and gained six points for the team. Jones also won the 1500m race in a time of 4:07.21. Freshman Kevin Leroy placed seventh in 5,000 meter race in 17:49.85 and added two points to the score. Junior Kevin Codd ran a good race placing third in the steeple chase with a time of 11:02.00 adding six points. Freshman Matt Krepel set a new personal and school record in the triple jump by jumping 9.63 meters and placing sixth in the event.
"Its amazing how many people ran their personal bests at this meet," commented head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler post-race. "Both teams performed well and placed the highest they have all year".
