Barons Track and Field Break School Records
WHEELING, WV-The Franciscan University of Steubenville's men's track team competed in their first outdoor meet of the 2009 season on Saturday at Wheeling Jesuit University. Franciscan University had record-breaking performances and placed ninth out of 13 teams.
For the men's team, Bill Jones scored the team's most points by placing second in the 5k race running in 15:25.17 and scoring eight points. Freshman Kevin Leroy finished in eighth place running in the same race in a time of 16:39.16 and adding one point to the team's score. Patrick Meier helped the team by finishing in fifth place in the 400m dash with a new school record of 54.10 seconds. Junior Kevin Codd competed well in the steeple chase finishing fifth place with a time of 11:00.86 minutes. Freshman Tim Michaud, in his first collegiate track meet, placed eighth in the javelin throw by throwing 41.80 meters.
"We are starting to succeed in all of our different events," comments head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler post-meet. Dr. Shrek, the head sprinting coach, observes, "Even for the first meet, many sprinters ran their personal best." Both coaches noted the teams' growth and development, especially on the men's team.
