Men Run Best of Season at Saint Vincent College Invite

Latrobe, PA-The men's cross country team from Franciscan University of Steubenville traveled to St. Vincent College on Saturday, September 26, to compete in the SVC XC Invite. The men put forth their greatest performance of the season and placed fifth out of 12 teams with 137 points.

The men showed significant improvement with six runners finishing under 30 minutes for the 8k race. Freshman Jack Kaiser led the men's team by placing 14 out of 131 runners with a time of 27:18 minutes, a 30 second improvement from two weeks ago at Westminster College. Finishing in 25th place was senior Kevin Codd, completing the race in a personal record time of 27:58. Next for the team came sophomores Kevin Leroy, who scored 31 points by finishing in 28:55 minutes, and Marcus Fluty, who finished in 29:09. Also breaking 30 minutes were freshmen Jake Rudd, who came in fifth for the team by running 29:30, and Michael Gotta, who finished the race in 29:51. Saint Vincent College won the men's race with 36 points.

"It was a great performance all-around," commented coach Dr. Daniel Kuebler post-race. "The men are showing great improvement, and the women are running consistently."

The Barons will compete next at the All-Ohio Championships in Delaware, OH on October 2, 2009.
