Lady Barons Lose Two at Pitt-Bradford

STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Lady Barons of Franciscan University of Steubenville are still winless after they faced off against The University of Pitt-Bradford on Sunday. The Lady Barons’ numerous errors were their downfall losing 8-0 and 9-1. Their record now stands at 0-16 overall, and 0-8 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Lady Barons only managed to get two hits in the first game, one by junior Krista Bertke, and another by junior Bethany Fischer. Senior LeeAnn Kramer was the dominant player for Pitt-Bradford in the first game, tallying 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Catcher Luaryn Weaver contributed 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 run, and Second Baseman Megan Clyde had 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and 1 run. The second game was slightly better for the Lady Barons. Sophomore Angelle Cupit had 2 hits and 1 RBI, while freshman Katie Kirrane had 2 hits and 1 run scored. Senior Nicole Lancour also registered a hit. However, the offensive firepower of Pitt-Bradford was too much, as short stop Kramer dominated once again, this time with 2 hits, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs. Right Fielder Kerri Davis had 3 hits and 2 runs, and Center Fielder Michelle Kushner contributed 1 hit, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs. Lady Barons Head Coach Amanda Gutowski was quick to praise the prowess of their opponents. “Pitt-Bradford was a good team, a big team,” she remarked. “We lost the first game, and it was really disheartening, because we’re at a point in the season where we’re sick of losing, and we could really be competing with a number of these teams. Our errors are still killing us; it continues to be a major problem.” The Lady Barons’ next contest is a double header Tuesday at home at 5 p.m. against Penn State-Beaver.
