Lady Barons Lose Two at Frostburg State
FROSTBURG, MD – The Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons traveled to Frostburg State University for their first conference matchup of the season Friday night. Frostburg’s talented roster proved to be too much as the Lady Barons lost both games of their double header, 12-4 and 10-2. Catcher Katie Quitney was the offensive standout for the Lady Barons in the first game, with 1 hit, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored. Angelle Cupit had 2 hits and 1 run scored, while Bethany Fischer had 1 hit and 2 runs scored. Tapman was the offensive leader for Frostburg State in the first game, registering 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and scoring 3 runs. Lara Plumlee and Katie Kirrane led the Lady Barons in the second game, each getting a hit and scoring a run. The Lady Barons played exceptional defense in this game, and had their first error-free game of the season. Tapman was once again the standout for Frostburg, this time recording 3 hits, 5 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Lady Barons Head Coach Amanda Gutowski was impressed with her team’s performance against a talented Frostburg State squad: “We lost both games today, but Frostburg was a really good team, probably one of the better we’ll see this season. We hung in there, especially in the second game, and it was really close for a while. The girls did really well, and our errors are starting to deplete, which is a very good sign.” The Lady Barons next contest is a 1 p.m. double header at home against The University of Pitt-Bradford on Sunday.
