STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Lady Barons of Franciscan University hosted the Chatham University Lady Cougars in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. It was Senior Night, honoring Franciscan's lone senior Amelia Gallagher, but the celebration was spoiled by two Chatham victories. The Lady Cougars won game one, 8-2, and game two, 10-0.
"This is still a learning process," Lady Baron head coach Terry Leighty said. "We have a young team, with a lot of girls who have never played this kind of softball before, and they are getting the experience they need, but the future is bright."
Gallagher pitched game one, and fell behind 2-0 after the first half inning. However, the Lady Barons stormed back and got two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning on a Daniella Pillar double to right-centerfield.
Chatham had offensive answers in the following three innings as they scored one run in the top of the fourth, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth to secure the 8-2 game one victory.
The offensive stand-out in game one for the Lady Barons was Katrina Fabian, who went 3-4 with a double and a run.
"I've been really impressed with Katrina Fabian," Leighty said. "She has been hitting the ball really well as of late, boosting her batting average about .50 points in the last few games."
In game two, the Lady Barons fell 10-0 as they were only able to record one hit, while committing four errors.
The Lady Barons fall to 0-30 on the year and look to notch their first victory in their final doubleheader of the season against D'Youville College on Saturday, April 28.
