LATROBE, Pa. – The Franciscan University Lady Baron softball team's early season struggles continued Thursday as they traveled to Saint Vincent College and suffered two 12-0 defeats at the hands of the Lady Bearcats.
"We're just struggling hitting the ball," said Lady Baron head coach Terry Leighty. "Continuing to be the bright spot offensively for us, though, is Catherine Durand, who is hitting .583."
Durand was the only Franciscan player to get on base in both games, recording a hit in the first game and a walk in the second.
The Lady Barons committed five errors in game one of the doubleheader, but improved defensively in the second game.
"The last game we didn't have any errors, so we picked it up," Leighty said.
Conference play kicks off this Saturday as the Lady Barons host a doubleheader against Penn State Behrend. The games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
"Our season really starts on Saturday [with conference play]," noted Leighty, "so hopefully that in and of itself can get us pumped up."
