BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Franciscan University softball team made the long trip to Buffalo one final time on Saturday for a make-up doubleheader versus the D'Youville College Lady Spartans. The Lady Barons dropped both games, 9-0 and 6-4.
Amelia Gallagher, Franciscan's starting pitcher in game one who recorded the loss, also recorded the only Lady Baron hit in that game with a third-inning single.
In game two, FUS had a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning, but D'Youville took advantage of timely hitting and defensive mishaps by the Lady Barons to score four runs, taking a 4-1 lead.
Franciscan got another run in the fifth and two more in the top of the seventh, but could not complete the comeback, falling 6-4.
Cathy Durand and Mallori Linscomb ended their strong offensive seasons on a high note, going 2-4 and 3-4 from the plate, respectively. Durand had two RBIs to go along with her two hits, while Linscomb had an RBI double.
Despite pitching arguably her best of the season, Amanda Ruwart took the game two loss in the circle for the Lady Barons, throwing a complete game, allowing nine hits, three earned runs, striking out two and only walking one.
The Lady Barons end their season 0-32.
