STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Small acts of kindness go a long way in the mind of assistant softball coach Jennifer Parker. So she gathered her Franciscan University Lady Baron softball team Wednesday night to volunteer at the Blue and Gold Banquet for Steubenville’s Boy Scout Pack No. 401. Last Game Defeat for Lady Barons
PITTSBURGH—The Franciscan University Lady Baron softball team hit the road Thursday afternoon for their last doubleheader of the season against the Mt. Aloysius College Mounties. The competition proved to be a challenge for the Lady Baron defense, resulting in a 10-0 game one loss and 8-0 in the second, placing the team 2-16 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for the 2011 season.

Plumlee Hits a Grand Slam on Senior Night
STEUBENVILLE—Senior Lara Plumlee couldn’t ask for a better game. In the final home game of her collegiate career, the lone senior and captain of the Lady Barons softball team hit the first grand slam of Franciscan softball history. The game two, fifth inning, epic hit tied up Monday’s game versus Oberlin College, but it was still not enough to defeat the visiting Yeowomen. Franciscan fell 5-2 and 10-6.

The Hard Work is Paying Off: Lady Barons Victorious!
ERIE, Pa.—The Lady Baron softball team had a spectacular victory Saturday against the Hilbert College Hawks in a doubleheader played at Penn State Behrend. Playing as the home team, the Lady Barons defeated Hilbert 10-9 in an eight-inning game one, propelling Franciscan into a resounding 7-0 victory for game two.

Lady Barons Resume Game; Fall to Panthers
STEUBENVILLE—Two weeks ago was the last time the Lady Baron softball team played a game. One month ago was the first time the Lady Barons faced the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg when the game was postponed in the top of the sixth inning due to weather. Facing a 4-1 deficit, Franciscan University continued the long awaited match Thursday afternoon, falling 7-4. The Lady Barons went on to lose game two of the doubleheader 11-2.

Defensive Woes Continue to Plague Lady Barons

STEUBENVILLE— Franciscan University's Lady Baron softball team hosted the Penn State Altoona Lions Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader. The Lady Barons took a hard blow from Altoona in game one with 9-1 loss. However, the team rallied for game two and racked up 11 hits and five runs, ending with a 17-5 loss to the Lions.

Lady Barons Give an Exciting Game 2
STEUBENVILLE—Franciscan University’s Lady Baron softball team opened up Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on Saturday in a doubleheader versus the Lions of Penn State Behrend. The Lady Barons struggled initially, dropping game one 10-2, but showed vast improvement in an exciting second game before surrendering 11-7. Franciscan’s record now settles at 1-9 (0-2) on the season.

Brand New Team with a Brand New Future
In the preseason Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference polls, the Franciscan University Lady Barons softball team faces a prediction of finishing last in the conference. This isn’t too surprising since the team finished in this same spot last season with a 3-23 overall record, going 2-16 in the conference. First year head coach Terry Leighty isn’t swayed, however, saying it’s too early on to tell if that prediction will be accurate or not.

Franciscan University Hires Cleveland Softball Great
STEUBENVILLE – He is a 2005 Greater Cleveland Softball Hall of Fame inductee, multiple winner of all-city and all-world selection in softball, and member of the all-decade team from 1975-1985. Terry Leighty now joins the Franciscan University of Steubenville coaching staff as head softball coach for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
