Lady Barons Drop 8th in a Row
STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons lost at home Thursday night to Penn State Altoona, 67-42. The Lady Barons out-rebounded the Nittany Lions however shot 24% from the floor. This brings the Lady Barons to a record of 3-10 (1-9).
The Lady Barons performance was actually an improvement from their first matchup with this talented Penn State Altoona team, in which they lost by 61 points.
Cara Mitchell led all scorers with 19 points, while Kristin Belleque contributed 7. Angelle Cupit recorded 14 rebounds, leading the way to Franciscan's 37-31 rebounds over the Nittany Lions. Courtney Carroll and Angie Proper were the top scorers for Penn State Altoona with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Lady Barons Head Coach Kelly Herrmann said that their poor shooting was the cause of their large margin of defeat: "We shot horribly tonight," she remarked in a post-game interview, "If we shot better, we definitely would have been in this game. We only shot 52% from the line, which really hurt us tonight. It was tough matching up with Altoona because they play a five-guard style of offense, with several good shooters. But our team is continuing to get better, and we're definitely doing some things right."
The Lady Barons next contest is Saturday at home against Hilbert College at 1 p.m.
