Lady Barons Lose to Wooster

Lady Barons Lose to Wooster

The Lady Barons basketball team of Franciscan University of Steubenville traveled to Wooster College on Saturday afternoon, losing 80-38.  With the loss, the Lady Barons fell to 0-2 (0-0) on the season.

The Lady Barons trailed 42-5 at halftime, but were able to be competitive in the second period, as Wooster only outscored them 38-33 that half.

Sarah Viancourt led the Lady Barons on the day with 9 points, while Marian Weber had 7 and Cara Mitchell and Jordan Henneberry had 6 apiece.  Guard Kim Wenz was the offensive standout for Wooster, registering 18 points, while Samantha Sulzer had 11 and Sarah Abboud had 10.

"They're a good team, they have a lot of depth," Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann remarked post-game.  "They have a very good guard in Kim Wenz, and a strong post game led by Samantha Sulzer.  It was hard being down by that much at halftime, but the girls were tough and rallied back in the second half, and I am very proud of their effort today against a very talented team which outmanned across the board.

The Lady Barons' next contest will be in the Wooster College Tournament tomorrow at 1 p.m.
