Frostburg Notches Sixth Straight Victory against Franciscan

FROSTBURG, MD – The Lady Barons basketball team of Franciscan University of Steubenville traveled to Frostburg State University Wednesday night for their first contest of the spring semester. Cara Mitchell led the Lady Barons with 15 points, keeping the score close for the majority of the game, but Frostburg eventually pulled away for a 70-45 victory. With the loss, the Lady Barons fell 0-10 (0-7) in the season.

Lady Barons forward Marian Weber had 8 points, while Sarah Viancourt, Kristin Belleque, and Jessi Darmelio had 6 apiece. Brittany James had 20 points for Frostburg, while teammate Caryn Wright followed closely with 18.

The Lady Barons are now 0-3 all-time against Frostburg, but will get a rematch on their home courts February 10.

“We were very competitive in this game until the end,” Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann said. “We kept them within 14 points until the final minutes. Cara Mitchell had one of her best games of all time for us tonight. She played well all-around, and had fifteen points. We didn’t have enough energy today, though. Our legs were slow because we didn’t work enough over Christmas break. We definitely have some work to do before our next game.”

The Lady Barons will host Pitt-Bradford this Saturday at 2 p.m.
