Mitchell and Weber Lead the Offense Against Frostburg

STEUBENVILLE, OH – Cara Mitchell and Marian Weber brought the offensive power for the Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons basketball team during Monday night’s game versus Frostburg State University. The Lady Barons fell to the Bobcats, 62-45. The Lady Barons now stand 3-16 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and 3-20 overall.

The Lady Barons started the night strong, hanging with Frostburg in the first half and only trailing 28-21 at the break. Eventually Frostburg’s powerful offense wore down the Lady Barons, and the Bobcats extended their lead into the double-digits.

Mitchell and Weber were once again at the top of the stat sheet for the Lady Barons. Mitchell had 14 points, three rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Weber also had 14 points, and contributed eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Lisa Byer of Frostburg led all scorers with 22 points while teammate Elizabeth Erickson recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Frostburg now holds a 4-0 series advantage over the Lady Barons since entering the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference last season.

“I thought we played extremely well,” Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann commented. “Frostburg is a great team, and I thought that we did a great job of hanging in the game. The girls did a great job and really played with intensity. Marian and Cara both had great games for us tonight. Jen Winkle did a great job of defending Brittany James and we held her to just six points on the night. We’re looking forward to our next game against La Roche, and we’re hoping to surprise them.”

The Lady Barons travel to La Roche College this Wednesday; game time is at 6 p.m.
