STEUBENVILLE—The Lady Barons of Franciscan University of Steubenville took to their home court in a battle against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Behrend Saturday afternoon, struggling for control and turning the ball over 29 times en route to a 72-45 loss.
"They are a good, aggressive team," Franciscan head coach Luke Heusel. "I like that. For the most part, we matched their aggressiveness. We forced some turnovers, and that was fantastic."
Behrend turned the ball over almost as many times as the Lady Barons did, committing 27 turnovers on the night. But the difference came to foul shooting and field goal percentage. Behrend went 12-12 from the charity stripe in the first half, and 28-39 overall, compared to Franciscan's 12-22. As for shooting percentages, Behrend shot 37% from the field compared to just 24% from the Lady Barons.
Despite the loss, Coach Heusel saw numerous things he liked from his team: "We had great hustle from our three seniors, and our top three scorers were three freshmen which is nice to see."
The loss drops the Lady Barons to 2-11 overall on the season and 1-7 in the AMCC. They are back in action with another home game this Monday, January 17, against La Roche College. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
