Coach Heusel Hopeful For The New Year

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — The Lady Baron basketball team from Franciscan University hosted Ohio University Eastern Thursday night, falling to the nonconference opponent, 77-40.

"It's a disappointing defeat and it shouldn't have been a 37-point ballgame," said head coach Luke Heusel. "That's not really how we play basketball."

Amy O'Keefe led the Lady Barons with an impressive 21 points. "Amy O'Keefe played really well," said Heusel. "She was very sick this week, but she had a good game and knocked down some shots. I also liked the hustle of Louise Craig and Bethany Potvin."

Thursday's loss leaves the Lady Barons 1-8 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

"We've played well in the conference so far," noted Heusel. "We've got quite a few more conference games, so we'll focus on getting ready to be back in January."

The Lady Barons will face off with University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m.
