Suzy Delaney is in her fifth season as the head coach of the Franciscan women’s basketball team. Previously she was blessed to work as an assistant coach for former women’s basketball head coach, Luke Heusel (2 seasons), and current women’s volleyball head coach (and former women’s basketball Coach), Kelly Herrmann (3 seasons).
Delaney has had the pleasure of coaching three AMCC All-Conference players during her tenure as head coach including Lacey Huck (Class of 2015), Iliana Gonzales and Sarah Schriner (current players). She was also voted by her fellow AMCC coaches as the 2015 AMCC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, following the Barons first trip to the AMCC Conference Playoffs. Delaney also serves as the AMCC’s representative to the ECAC Championships Committee.
Delaney had the honor of playing high school basketball under the direction of OVAC Champion coach, Steve Laposki at Union Local High in Belmont, Ohio. Her basketball career continued at NCAA Division II, Wheeling Jesuit University, for two seasons. At WJU, she was named Best Defensive Player both seasons. Although elected as a co-captain for her junior season, Delaney felt called to become a member of the FUS family and transferred in the summer of 1996. At Franciscan, she was twice named the Female Athlete of the Year.
Coach Delaney graduated from Franciscan in 1999 with a BA in biology and theology and in 2015 with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is currently employed by the Jefferson Behavioral Health System.
Delaney, a mom of four and wife to FUS Director of Alumni and asst. women’s basketball coach, Tim Delaney, resides in Steubenville with her family.
