Luke Heusel entered his first season as head coach of the Lady Barons Basketball team in the fall of 2010.

A graduate of Franciscan University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Heusel earned graduate degrees in Human Performance and Health Promotion from the University of New Orleans (1998) and Physical Therapy from Baylor University (2000).  He served the US Army as a physical therapist from 1998 until 2004 and subsequently completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Baylor University in 2008.

Heusel’s clinical practice has included extensive experience in the training and rehabilitation of the athlete. He has prepared athletes in various disciplines for competition. He currently works as a physical therapist at East Liverpool City Hospital.

An avid basketball player from a basketball family, Heusel played and assisted with coaching responsibilities for the inaugural men’s club basketball team at Franciscan from 1995-96. During that time he was twice named male athlete of the year.

Heusel resides in Steubenville with his wife Ann and their four children.

Suzy Delaney

Suzy Delaney

Title: Head Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Suzy Delaney enters her fifth season as an assistant coach for the Lady Barons.  Previously she was blessed to work as an assistant for former women’s basketball and current women’s volleyball head coach, Kelly Herrmann. Since 2010, Delaney has served as assistant to women's basketball coach Luke Heusel.

Delaney had the honor of playing high school basketball under the direction of OVAC Champion coach, Steve Laposki (retired) at Union Local High in Belmont, Ohio.  Her basketball career continued at NCAA Division II, Wheeling Jesuit University, for two seasons, where she was voted the team’s best defensive player both seasons.  Although elected as a co-captain for her junior season, Delaney felt called to become a member of the FUS family and transferred to Franciscan University in the summer of 1996.  At Franciscan, Delaney was twice named Female Athlete of the Year 

Coach Delaney graduated from Franciscan in 1999 with degrees in biology and theology.  She currently is a part-time graduate student in the Masters of Counseling program at the University. 

Delaney, a mom of four and wife to FUS Director of Alumni, Tim Delaney, resides in Steubenville with her family.

Bobby Aborn

Bobby Aborn

Title: Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Bobby Aborn joined the Baron Basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach during the fall of 2009.

After graduating from Catholic Memorial High School in Boston, Massachusetts, Aborn entered the U.S. Air Force and spent nine years on active duty completing tours in the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

Aborn is employed at Franciscan University of Steubenville as the Youth Conference Coordinator. He has an extensive background in leadership in both the competitive and work arena.

Aborn currently resides in Steubenville with his wife of 13 years, Christi.

Carrie Mitchell

Carrie Mitchell

Title: Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Carrie Mitchell returns to the Lady Barons coaching staff after coaching from 2006 to 2008. She is originally from Napavine Wash. In high school she earned All-State honors for three consecutive years. She is a top ten all-time scorer in Washington high school girls’ basketball history. During her senior year, “USA Today” named Mitchell one of Washington's top high school players. Standing at 6 foot 3 inches, she played center for Portland State University, a NCAA Div. I, landing a spot in their record books for shooting percentage, blocked shots, and free-throw shooting percentage.  

She earned a bachelor's of science in social sciences at Portland State and an masters in Theology from Franciscan University in 2006. Coach Mitchell resides in Steubenville with her husband and two daughters.
