STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan women's lacrosse team posted 12 goals in the first half as the Lady Barons won their fifth-straight game with an impressive 21-12 win over Notre Dame College (OH), Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Barons set a new standard for goals in a game as they scored 21 for the game, breaking the previous mark of 20.
Trailing 12-6 to open the second half, Nortre Dame rattled off three-straight goals and forced the Lady Barons to take a time out. Coming out of the quick break, the Lady Barons kicked off a 9-0 run with a goal from Carly McDonald to take a 21-9 lead. The run featured three goals from Mary Krolicki and two from Mcdonald and Elizabeth Dawyot.
Notre Dame closed out the game with three goals in the final 1:50 to bring the score to its final, 21-12.
Franciscan opened the game with a 4-0 run thanks to a pair of goals from Elizabeth McEntee and one from McDonald and Daywot. Notre Dame's Ashlee Boyko sandwiched a pair of goals around Krolicki's goal but the Lady Barons answered with a pair of goals to take the lead 7-2.
Notre Dame cut the lead back to 7-5 with three straight, but Lady Barons cleaned up the play in front of the cage and put two more in pushing its lead to 9-5. Halie Taylor scored the visitor's last goal of the first half before Krolicki and McEntee scored the final three goals of the half.
Franciscan welcomes Wilmington (OH) to Memorial Field on Saturday as the Lady Barons celebrate senior day with a 1:00 pm game.
