Lady Barons Return Home with a win and a loss
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - It was with a victory and a loss when the Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons returned from the Marian College Tournament, held the weekend of Sept. 5 and Sept. 6.
In their first game of the tournament, on Friday, Sept. 5, against the University of St. Francis (IL), the Lady Barons came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. Senior Kendra Evangelho scored both goals for the Lady Barons, one assisted by Junior and fellow Captain Erin Fitzpatrick. Although the Lady Barons came out on top, St. Francis out-shot the Lady Barons 29-14.
The Lady Barons then played the Marian College Knights the following day, Sept. 6, but lost the game 3-1. The Knights started off strong, scoring in the 5th minute. FUS Senior Kelly Koehr then put the Lady Barons on the board in the 25th minute, but Marian College came back even stronger in the second half, scoring the final and winning two goals of the game. Although the Knights out-shot the Lady Barons 31-5, FUS Keeper Nikki Traylor made an impressive 17 saves.
The Lady Barons next game will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, versus Bethany College at home at 5:30 p.m.
