Lady Barons End Season with Double Overtime Draw
GREENSBURG, Pa.—The Franciscan University Lady Baron soccer team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Tuesday afternoon for their final regular season match of the year. After 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime, neither team could get on the board and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
"My girls played well tonight," head coach Johann Marin said. "We didn't capitalize on the chances that we had, but we did create many opportunities."
Statistically, the game was evenly matched. Franciscan edged Pitt-Greensburg only slightly in shots on the day, 14-13. Lady Baron goalkeeper Sarah Thoms finished the day with nine saves while Olivia Valenti recorded seven saves for Greensburg.
"We just couldn't get any offense going," Marin added. "I do have a lot of talent and there is a lot of promise for the upcoming seasons. They did improve individually and as a team and that is all I can hope for. It was good that we did not end on a loss."
With the draw, the Lady Barons wrap up their season with a record of 5-10-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
