DANBURY, Conn. – After making the conference championship game for the first time in program history, the Franciscan women's soccer team's historic season is not over yet as the Lady Barons earned a spot in the ECAC tournament. The Lady Barons will travel to Frostburg, MD to take on Grove City in the opening round on Saturday.
Franciscan (10-9) earned the No. 4 seed in Pod 3 of the tournament and will square off against No. 1 seed Grove City (15-5) in the first game of the day.
The Lady Barons enter the game having won four of their last five games, including a pair of wins in the 2017 AMCC conference tournament.
Senior Megan Luiso who paces the Lady Barons with 11 goals and an assist on the season while classmate Clare Kennedy has dished out a team-high four assists to lead Franciscan's offense. Freshman Annie McGraw has three assists while classmate Gracie Tillman and junior Emily Wieszczek each have two.
Franciscan will take on Grove City who lost in the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship match against top-seeded Thomas More. The Wolverines are led by Lindsay Hutton with 10 goals while Megan Van Kirk has four goals and six assists on the year.
The Lady Barons and Wolverines have squared off just once in program history, with Grove City notching a 3-1 win in 2015.
The selection to the ECAC tournament is the first time in program history the Lady Barons have earned a bid to the regional tournament.
In the other game in Pod 3, No. 2 Westminster will take on hosts and third-seeded Frostburg State at Bobcat Stadium in Frostburg, MD.
Franciscan and Grove City are set to get underway at 11am on Saturday.
