Swimming & Diving Team Earns Runner-Up in AMCC

GROVE CITY, Pa.— The first year for Franciscan University's swimming and diving team has proved to be a season filled with excellence and Saturday proved no differently. After four days of competition in Grove City College's James E. Longnecker Invitational, which serves as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship, the Lady Barons ended their season runners-up in the AMCC.

The Lady Barons started the season as a team with no experience and finished with a powerful presence made known through their hard work and consistent performances.

"For a first year a lot of the girls didn't know what to make of college swimming but after this experience and doing so well I think they will give it more thought," said assistant coach Ryan Miller.

Senior diver Danielle Tremblay's performance helped her team to out score the third place team by two points and secure the runner-up title.

The significant impact of the Lady Baron relay teams showed once again as the 400-yard freestyle relay, consisting of GraceAnne Beatovich, Maria Deuchar, Erin Horomanski and Maria Giuliani, tied for ninth place with fellow AMCC member, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, with a time of  4:03.91.

"For a new team we had a good mix of swimmers that at least one swimmer could specialize in every area," said assistant coach Ryan Miller. "We don't have a lot of swimmers but to have all the areas covered is amazing."

Freshman Erin Horomanski achieved a stand out performance in the 200-yard breaststroke race by finishing second in the AMCC with a time of 3:06.84.

The young team is ready to return next season to continue building a tradition of embracing challenges and growing as a team.

"Right now it is good to focus on what we have accomplished and hopefully build on that for next season," added Miller.

The Franciscan swimming and diving team finishes their first-ever season 4-4 on the season and second overall in the AMCC.
