Franciscan fares well during toughest competition of the season
Oberlin, OH-The Franciscan University of Steubenville's women's track teams traveled to Oberlin College for the Bob Kahn Invite to face the toughest competition they've met all season. The women's placed fifth of 10 teams with 68 points. Tiffin University women placed first as well with 163.5 points.
On the women's side, the sprinters set many new school records. Junior Erica Cornavaca set new records in the 100m and 200m dashes running 13.36 seconds and 27.68 seconds consecutively. The women's 4x100m relay run by sophomores Andrea Scott, Samantha Delfin, Mazel Belt and junior Erica Cornavaca set the new school record at 53.54 seconds while placing in fourth and scoring five points. Winning the 3k meter race, junior Erin Bliss set a personal and school record at 10:22.81 minutes. Sophomore Theresa Evans was not far behind in the 3k race placing fifth in a time of 11:08.16 minutes. Junior Monica Rust won the 800m race running a time of 2:25.05 and placed third in the 1500m race in 4:59.24. Sophomore Mary Manion scored two points for the team by placing seventh in the 800m race in 2:31.70 minutes. Sophomore Lexie Mathis also scored points for the team in the 1500m by placing fourth in a time of 5:10.50. Sophomore Julie Rohrman placed in three events. In the discus, Rohrman placed sixth throwing 30.49 meters and placed eighth in the javelin throwing 24.89 meters. Rorhman set a personal record in the long jump placing third with 4.73 meters. In the javelin event, freshman Jorden Henneberry added five points to the score by placing fourth with a throw of 29.93 meters. The women's 4x4 relay team, including sophomores Andrea Scott, Mary Manion and freshmen Kate Paulmann and Ellen Klein, placed fourth adding five points to the score. Also scoring points for the team was sophomore Tessa Livermont who placed fifth in the steeple chase in 14:10.69 minutes.
"We had a lot of great races" commented head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler post-race. "Many people competed the best they have in their careers".
Both track teams will compete for the last time of the 2009 season on May 8th at the Gator Invite at Allegheny College.
