New Records for Franciscan University

NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Franciscan University of Steubenville women's track team set new school and personal records as they competed extremely well at the Westminster Invite on Saturday. The women's team placed fourth out of seven teams with 75 points while winning one event. Westminster College's women's team took first overall at the meet by scoring 248 points. 

The women went 1-2 in the 5,000 meter race with Junior Erin Bliss placing first with a time of 18:28 and sophomore Theresa Evans running a personal record and placing second with a time of 19:24. Junior Chantel Fouchi broke her own record in the 100m hurdles running in a time 18.72 seconds while placing sixth and adding three points to the women's tally. Junior Monica Rust set a school record and a four-year personal record in the 800m race running a time of 2:20.52. Rust placed second in the event and added eight points to the score. Sophomore Samantha Delfin set school record in the triple jump by placing third with a jump of 9.01 meters. Personal records were also broken by sophomore Lexie Mathis in the 1500m (placing second with a time of 5:04.10), and freshman Sarah Kuenzi in the shot put (throwing 7.61 meters) and discus (throwing 21.46 meters). Also scoring for the women's team were junior Erica Cornavaca (placing sixth in the 200m in 28.27 seconds), freshman Ellen Klein (placing sixth in the 400m race with a time of 1:08.45), and freshman Kate Paulmann (placing seventh in the 400m race with a time of 1:08.79). Sophomore Anna Scarnecchia, usually sprinting for the women's team, placed seventh in the 1500m race in 5:22.81 minutes and placed fifth in the 400m race in 1:12.82. Sophomore Julie Rohrman placed fifth in javelin by throwing 28.42 meters and seventh in discuss by throwing 32.00 meters. The women's two 4 by 400m relays scored nine points total by placing fourth and fifth overall with times of 4:31.87 and 4:33.06.

"Its amazing how many people ran their personal bests at this meet," commented head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler post-race. "Both teams performed well and placed the highest they have all year".

Franciscan's track teams will be competing in two more track meets this season. You can find them competing next on Friday at the Bob Kahn Invite in Oberlin, OH.
