Barons Track and Field Break School Records
FUS Track and Field Continue to Break School Records
WASHINGTON, PA-The Franciscan University of Steubenville women's track and field team competed well at the Washington and Jefferson Invite Saturday. The team placed 9 out of 13 teams for a second week.
On the women's side, the distance runners had a successful day for racing as junior Erin Bliss and sophomore Theresa Evans surged the scoreboard during the first race around the track-the 10k race. Bliss, placing first in the event and scoring 10 points for the team, completed the 6.2 mile race in 37:54 minutes. Evans finished not far behind in 40:12 minutes, placing third and adding six points to the team score. Running mid-distance, junior Monica Rust broke Franciscan's previous record of 4:56 held by Erin Bliss in the 1500m race setting the new record at 4:52 minutes while placing second in the race and scoring eight points. Sophomore Lexie Mathis scored two points for the team by placing seventh in the 1500m in 5:07 minutes while also taking 10 seconds off of her time from last week. Sophomore Tessa Livermont splashed up five points for the team running in the 3k meter steeplechase placing fourth overall in 14:17 minutes. For the jumpers, junior Chantel Fouchi tied for sixth in the high jump clearing 1.42 meters gaining two and a half points for the team.
"We look for improvement each meet," commented head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler post race. "Over the next two weeks we will continue working hard to improve even more."
The both teams have Holy Week off and will race again at Carnegie-Mellon on April 15 starting at 4 p.m.
