The Franciscan University head volleyball coach devotes her summers to immersing coaches and players from the Ohio Valley in the techniques of volleyball. Her summer camps start next month.

    STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – This season, the Franciscan University Lady Baron volleyball team became the first team to represent FUS in postseason Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. Despite falling to Penn State Behrend in the first round of the AMCC tournament, the Lady Barons enjoyed a successful season led by three players earning all-conference honors.

  • Lady Barons Fall Early in Postseason Play

    ERIE, Pa.—The 2011 season ended for the Lady Baron volleyball team Tuesday evening as the team was defeated by Penn State Behrend, 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 18-25, 21-25), in conference playoffs. This was the first year Franciscan University was eligible for postseason play in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament, entering playoffs as the fifth-seeded team.
  • Volleyball Locks Up No. 5 Seed for First Ever Postseason Play

    STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – As Penn State Behrend locked up its No. 4 seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament, the Franciscan University Lady Barons were solidified as No. 5 for their first ever AMCC tournament next week. This is the first year any Franciscan sports team is eligible for postseason play after gaining full membership into the NCAA in July. The Lady Barons took down the D’Youville Lady Spartans, 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-23).

    GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Franciscan University of Steubenville women’s volleyball team has secured a spot in its first ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament after foiling the playoff hopes of its Wednesday opponent, the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. The Lady Barons defeated Greensburg 3-2 (20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 15-8).

    STEUBENVILLE, Ohio—Franciscan University’s Finnegan Fieldhouse was full of fans present for the honoring of Lady Baron seniors Nicole Henson and Alyssa Wappes Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the home team, Penn State Behrend played spoiler as they took down Franciscan, 3-0.
  • Lady Barons Make a Clean Sweep of La Roche in 2011

    PITTSBURGH—Franciscan University volleyball is already very familiar with the La Roche College Redhawks this season. La Roche has traveled to Finnegan Fieldhouse twice, both times in non-conference play, and both times falling to the Lady Barons, 3-0. Wednesday night, Franciscan traveled to the Redhawk home court for a conference match, and the victory favored the Lady Barons once again, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17).

    MARIETTA, Ohio—The Lady Baron volleyball team traveled to Marietta College on Saturday for a tri-match versus Wilmington College and Marietta. Franciscan University shutout Wilmington 3-0 in its first match (25-21, 25-19, 25-20), while Marietta defeated Franciscan in match two, 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 10-25).

    STEUBENVILLE—The Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Baron volleyball team welcomed the La Roche College Red Hawks into Finnegan Fieldhouse for the second time this season, and just like the first time the two teams met up, Franciscan dominated their way to a 3-0 victory.

    BRADFORD, Pa.— Franciscan University’s Lady Baron volleyball team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to take on conference opponent the Lady Panthers. Franciscan fell to Bradford 3-2, leaving the Lady Barons with an overall season standing of 6-10 and 1-3 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

The Lady Barons came out strong to push the match into five games, but ultimately fell with a final score of 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 19-25, 8-15).

    BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Franciscan University volleyball team recorded its first conference win as well as its first conference loss during Saturday’s AMCC Quad Match at Medaille College. The Lady Barons dropped their first match of the day to Medaille 3-0, as the Lady Mavs swept Franciscan in three games (17-25, 21-25, 28-30). Franciscan rebounded from the morning loss to complete a 3-0 sweep over Hilbert College in the afternoon match (25-15, 28-26, 25-15).

    STEUBENVILLE—Franciscan University’s Lady Baron volleyball team will continue its annual breast cancer awareness and fundraising event this coming Saturday, September 17, beginning at 11 a.m. Affectionately referred to as Dig Pink, the event includes a tri-match, chances to win prizes, and free concessions. All proceeds benefit the T.E.A.R. Fund at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center.

    STEUBENVILLE—The Finnegan Fieldhouse was the site of Franciscan University volleyball’s third annual breast cancer awareness and fundraiser event, nicknamed “Dig Pink.” The event hosted raffles, free t-shirts, free food, an honoring of two local breast cancer survivors, as well as three volleyball matches. Franciscan opened up the event with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 30-28) victory over La Roche College, and closed out the afternoon with a 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 28-26) loss to Ursuline College.

The Lady Barons did not disappoint their home crowd as they beat Marietta, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22).

    CLEVELAND, Ohio—Despite winning their first game of the day over John Carroll University, the Franciscan University Lady Barons volleyball team did not get another victory Saturday, falling in their final two matches of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament. The Lady Barons were defeated by JCU with a score of 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-27, 19-25), and were swept by Thiel College, 3-0 (15-25, 17-25, 13-25).

    BEREA, Ohio—Baldwin-Wallace College hosted its 13th Annual Marcia French Memorial Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, and the Franciscan University Lady Barons opened up their day-one competition with a 3-0 victory over Oberlin College. In a hard-fought match two, Franciscan was defeated 3-2 by Westminster College of Pennsylvania.
