Lady Barons Swept By Denison

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Franciscan Lady Barons dropped below .500 on the season with a loss to the Denison University Big Red. The Lady Barons lost three straight games. Franciscan (5-6) never got momentum against a strong and deep Denison squad.

Starter, Jackie Zucco, was injured for this game which forced Laura Holley to play all around.  Head Coach Kelly Herrmann talked about how difficult it was to keep up with the hard-hitting Big Red team.

"They are a good team and they blast the ball," Herrmann said. "We could not play good enough offense to put pressure on them. We just kept setting them up. We were not hitting hard enough to slow them down."

Offensively for FUS, Anna Cain had six kills while Danni Link and Amy O'Keefe both had three kills. Defensively, Sam Kelly and O'Keefe both had nine digs while Maria Prezzia had eight digs.

Herrmann stressed the importance of staying positive in the middle of a tough season.

"Our season's almost halfway over," Herrmann said, "it goes by so fast. We don't want to spend time pouting. We want to move on and get ready for the next match."

The Lady Barons are preparing for conference play in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference this weekend.

"We're preparing for our conference play. Nothing really matters except for our conference play," Herrmann said.

The Lady Barons' next match is on September 18 against Bethany College.
