CRESSON, Pa. – After falling behind 2-0, the Franciscan volleyball team rallied for a dramatic 3-2 win over AMCC opponent, Mount Aloysius, Wednesday evening.
Trailing 8-4 at the switchover in the fifth set, Franciscan and the Mounties battled back and forth until the Lady Barons won the serve at 12-10. Franciscan survived a pair of long rallies and eventually took the deciding set 15-10 to close out the match.
Mount Aloysius won the first two sets and looked to be in control of the match with the lead in the third. The Lady Barons mounted their comeback and won the third set. The Lady Barons used that momentum swing to force a fifth set with a win in the fourth set.
The win improves the Lady Barons to 4-1 in the conference and 5-13 overall on the year while Mount Aloysius falls to 10-11 on the year and 2-3 in the AMCC.
"From the fourth set on, we came out and played really well and played aggressively," remarked head coach Kelly Herrmann. "We got them off balance and it really was a great team victory tonight.
"We can expect a battle like this in every AMCC match. There will be a lot of tough matches through the rest of conference play."
Coach Herrmann continued saying, "Anna Telepak hit really well tonight. She wasn't set a lot, but when she was, she got the job done. Maddie Raffa also hit well and Maria Ciola struggled early but played well at the end of the fourth and into the fifth set."
Franciscan is off this Saturday before hosting La Roche on Tuesday in a key AMCC matchup at 7pm.
